Foundations support a structure and need to be strong in order to keep a structure in place for many years. Foundations have to be designed to last. There are 3 types of foundations; shallow foundations, or footings for housing and smaller buildings; deep foundations for larger and heavier buildings and monopile foundations for offshore wind farm constructions.

Drainage options – point drainage intercepts water at points called gullies. These gullies connect to pipes underneath the ground; and channel draining, which intercepts water at the entire run of the channel.
